Meeting of the Minds

Posted on Fri Mar 15th, 2019 @ 9:03pm by Lieutenant Nicolette De St Chevalier & Lieutenant Commander Liam O'Leary Mr.

Mission: A Journey to the Stars
Location: Security Office

Nikki had been sitting at the desk in the small security office for far too long. She had no idea what time of day it was or how long she had actually been there, but the number of PADD's spread out around her and the number of screens up on her display seemed to grow by the hour. She sighed softly, closing her eyes as she leaned back in her seat, pulling an elastic from her pocked and using it to pull her hair up into a messy bun before sitting up, again, realising for the first time the gold collared male standing in her doorway.

"Hi, sorry, I wasn't expecting anyone, can I help you?" she asked curiously.

Liam walked into the Security office feeling a little unsure about everything, like why is he going here to voice his opinions or just to fit in until he can change his out look at there situation. after all Liam was a man of action and words at times mean nothing so he wasn;t sure how this will go but heres for hoping. Liam walked up to the desk and introduced himself," Hello Lieutenant I am Lieutenant Commander O'Leary I was told to come here for some information."

Setting down the PADD in her hands, Nikki stood up from her chair and held out her hand. "Lieutenant Nicolette De St Chevalier," she said with a smile. "But feel free to call me Nikki, I know the rest is quite a mouthful." She smiled warmly. "Are you new to the ship? Reporting in? What kind of information do you need?"

' Excuse me Lieutenant but your name sounds like its French from earth? anyway i was placed on your team until another time and position comes open? maybe I don't know really just hoping. i guess."

Nikki smiled gracefully at his remarks. "My parents are French," she said lightly. "I was born and raised on Earth, in Bordeaux, until I left to go to the Academy, and now I'm here." There was something about his demeanor, it was almost standoffish. Instead of reacting she just smiled and carried on. "I apologise if I seem unprepared, I'm not really on top of things yet. I got this assignment at last minute, so I only just came aboard myself and now I'm still catching up, so I haven't actually read your transfer orders yet. Commander O'Leary, wasn't it?"

Liam replied with " Yes Lieutant I am assigned to your department as a security officer,so i am here i guess to report in?" This is an oficer who has seen combat and hes not sure if his new department head has any idea on how intense it can be or is and besides that shes younger then he is and hes just not sure of her experience. However he does know that there is a reason why she is the head of this department so he has to remember that.

Nikki smiled. "Why don't you take a seat Commander?" she asked quietly, motioning at the chair across from her desk. "Can I get you a drink? The replicator does a mean coffee, but I do have a selection of 'something stronger' if that's more to your taste? You look like you have questions so we may as well get them out of the way.

Liam was suprised about Her demeaner so,.." ah yes please coffee sounds great, and strong please. If I may I was wondering what would my duties be in this department". Liam was hopeing for something that would keep him busy so he wouldn't be boared. " also how many personel do we have in Security? Is there enough to break up into two patrols?"

Setting the mug of strong coffee in front of him, Nikki slid back into her own seat, holding her own mug in her hands, blowing across the top of it momentarily. "I'll be perfectly honest with you, I'm not completely across the status of security right now. We're short handed across the board because launch was moved forward." She gave a chagrined smile. "We'll be doing the best we can until more crew .

Liam couldn't comprehen what he was hearing but he did understand the current situation of the vessel and its crew . " Ah got ya Lieutenant well at least do we have enough crew for a patrol for inside the ship? just because being so far from home and or off course other crew might have an idea to leave the ship with or with out the permission of their superiors. also with the spore drive almost working how safe is it to ? Forgive me for being a cautious officer but in the past i've had experience.

"Again I'll be honest, I know next to nothing about the spore drive or how it works, that's likely going to be a conversation best had with Engineering or someone else along the way. I couldn't tell you the difference between a plasma manifold or an exhaust manifold. As far as the crew goes, I don't think we have too much to worry about. Everyone seems to be on good standing, I don't think people sneaking away is going to be that much of an issue. That doesn't mean we shouldn't be cautious in general. I want to go through the crew roster when we have more than five minutes of spare time and actually look into the service history of each crew member. Given security is light handed it probably wouldn't hurt to be able to pull bodies from other seats in crunch time if needed," Nikki finished speaking with a smile.

Liam smiled back " well until we get more crew if you need my help in security i'll do my best to help out ,...and thank you for the the future i would like to discuss with you some ideas i have." Thinking to himself (( this is going to be a very long cruise )) turning towards the door walking away,...Liam paused a minute looking over his left shoulder since he was injured in hies right eye a while ago and may not get sight back in it." its a pleasure meeting you Lieutenant" as he walks out the door.

"My door is always open," Nikki replied with an easy laugh. "I'll work out the rostering and then have a chat with you about it, but we'll make it work, no concerns there. Have a good night Commander, I'll see you tomorrow."
